Microsoft Office XP with updates, can't open previous files

I upgraded my Microsoft Office XP because I needed to open a .docx file. I
don't know where the disk is that it is telling me to install (came with the
computer) so I got the file off the computer that it seemed to need. I was
able to open the .docx file I needed.

Now when I try and open and Excel file (or just open Excel) it tells me
"preparing to install. . . " then it tells me to put in the disk I can't find
(Microsoft Office XP Small Business).

Is there any way my computer can open both types of files?

What do I need to get from the website that it wants from that disk?

Thanks for your help!

Did you update Office XP or upgrade to Office 2007?

Did you install the compatibility pack?

I downloaded a file called FileFormatConverters.exe from Microsoft. I guess I
don't know what that is except it said I could open the .docx files and I
can. I didn't buy and upgrade or anything. I am finding out I can open old
Word files and new ones. I just can't open Excel at all. My Outlook and
Publisher seem to be fine.

You'll have to locate your "Microsoft Office XP Small Business" CD and when it asks for
it, place it in the installation drive.
