You have Office open on another computer on your network.

There is another computer using the same licence key number as yourself.

You need to find it and shut it down.

I had the same issue. Uninstalled. Reinstalled with viable product key
and same error is coming up. Suggestions on how to fully remove
duplicate product key? On startup of Word it shows my name and the
correct product key.

The problem isn't with your computer or its product key. It's that some
other machine on your network is running Office with the same key.

First, you have to find the machine on your local network that has the
same product key. Then shut it down or change *its* key (run the Remove
Office app, holding down the option key at the first screen to remove
licensing info only, then put in the proper key on startup of any Office
app).

Second, uninstalling and reinstalling almost never fixes anything
(unless you used the Remove Office app which also removes preferences
files - which do corrupt frequently).

In Office 2004, quit all Office Applications, then run the Office Remover
Tool.

As soon as you click it, hold down the Option key. It will offer the choice
to "Removing licensing information only". Accept that.

When you next start an Office application, it will prompt for a CD key.
Give it a different one.

If you only have one Licence Key, then you need to find the other machine
that is still using it and shut Office down completely.

If you are running Office 2008, the Remove Office Tool does not have this
function, come back and we'll give you a different method.

Cheers
