Microsoft Outlook 2007 shuts down unecpectedly

I have Microsoft Outlook 2007. Installed a couple of months ago on my new
computer after using on my previous computer. Recently I have had a problem
that when I click on business contact manager contacts and then go back to
personal contacts Outlook shuts down. It does not go through a shutdown
process or come up with any type of error, it simply dissappears in a flash.

I tried the latest down load SPII but it changed nothing.

Have you verified by check the Task Manager > Processes that Outlook.exe is
not running?

Does the behaviour go away if you run Outlook in safe mode?

Start > Run > outlook.exe

If so, then there is something that integrates with Outlook causing the
problem. Check your Add Ins.

When the problem happens, outlook.exe dissappears from the Task Manager also.

How do you open Outlook in safe mode? Is "Start > Run > outlook.exe" the
instruction to do this? I tried that and it did not change the problem. How
do I check if I am in safe mode or otherwise.

How do I know what add-ins I have. I tried doing a help search on add-ins
and the only thing that mentioned it was "12 add-ins to help you get more out
of Outlook". I checked this page and there was a fix tool for Outlook errors.
I ran the "free" tool to see if it would help but it wasn't free it was a
program I had to buy.

I tried that thanks and the problem did not persist in safe mode.
I have also noticed that in the past few days, whenever I switch to Business
Contact Manager, an error comes up "Business Contact Manager for Outlook
could not complete yur last action or actions. Please try again."

I cannot notice any affect of any changes I have made to business contact
manager.

If Outlook runs properly in safe mode, then check your Add Ins. Likely one
of them is the culprit.

How do I know what add-ins I have and how do I check them. I have looked for
add ins in the help menu and the only reference I can find is where I can
download additional programs to run with outlook. (I assume that is what add
ins means).

I use active sync and have business contact manager. These are the only two
programs I can think of that use outlook.

I found a thread that tells you how to check what add-ins I have. There are
about 7 - 8. They are all Microsoft published. I will try disabling them one
at a time to see which one is causing the problem. There is one that has been
system disabled because it was causing some type of problem but I don't know
why or when.

If I find and delete the offending add-in how would I get it back again or
how do I know if I even need it. It will take me a few days to get my next
step done.

Do you have antivirus scanning incoming/outgoing emails? That would be an
Add In as well. Check your Trust centre.

Most common culprits are AV, synch software, FAX software, things like that.

Have you tried opening Outlook with the /resetnavpane switch?

Start > Run > outlook.exe /resetnavpane

I tried this and it did not change the problem.

The add-in that did fix the problem was when I disabled "Business Conatct
Manager" add-in. When this add-in is disabled I can still use some of the BCM
features but the task bar heading disappears. So this is obviously not an
ideal solution.

I have re-enabled the BCM add-in. When I do go to BCM contact list (this ws
happening before also) an error comes up "Business Contact Manager for
Outlook could not complete your last action or actions. Please try again."
BCM then works fine while it is open however then when I switch to normal
contacts it shuts down (as mentioned originally).

I have tried to re-install BCM using the disk 2 but this did nothing. Should
I uninstall first and then re-install the BCM. Is there any dangers of loss
of data when doing this?

The option IS reinstall / repair.

Is it worth uninstalling and then re-installing BCM. Is there anything I
should do to ensure I don't lose anything. The data base is backed up useing
the manage data base feature.

Make sure Outlook is closed when you run any backups.Try running a repair of
BCM first.
