Microsoft Outlook Problem

FunGolfer

I was checking e-mail yesterday and right in the middle we had a power
outage......hate it when that happens.......did no damage to the pc, other
than Outlook.

Now when I try to start outlook, it runs though its file checkl and starts
to try to open then I get the error message that says:

Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Unable to open the Outlook Window.
The Set of folders could not be opened. The server is not available.
Contact your administrator if this problem persist.

Any ideas?? I have even used system restore and that did not help :^(

Would be nice to get back in! Thanks for your time and help.......

Not sure what the solution to your problem is but get an UPS so it
doesn't happen again.

You have run scanpst.exe (pst repair tool) against your data file?

I am "assuming" that is the file that MS Outlook ran when I tried to start
it. Honestly I am not too sure where the data file is located, I could find
it if I could open MS Outlook. I did go to the outlook directory in Program
files and temporaly changed the name of the outlook data file in that
directory to see if outlook would open, but it did not. I changed it back to
original name.

DL,

Thanks for your help......I did a little research and read on scanPST.exe
and first found a company that wanted to sell it to me for $129!!!!!! I did
a little more research and found that MS includes it but it is in different
locations depending on the OS and version and patches you have. I found it
on my machine and ran it and everything is back to normal, and it costs me
nothing....as I already had the fix!

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Just one additional info, as your problem is already fixed: System
Restore does not restore user data, such as your PST file(s).

You can try a popular Outlook recovery tool called Advanced Outlook
Repair to repair your PST file. It is a powerful tool to recover
messages, folders and other objects from corrupt or damaged Microsoft
Outlook PST files.

Detailed information about Advanced Outlook Repair can be found at
http://www.datanumen.com/aor/

And you can also download a free demo version at http://www.datanumen.com/aor/aor.exe
Good luck!
