I know many people have posted questions regarding this problem, but I can't
seem to find a situation close to mine. Here's what is going on.
At the college where I am, we have to have automatic updates turned on by
default otherwise network access is denied. My main issue is that whenever
the automatic update program installs the Office Updates (released in the
mid-October update cycle), I can no longer use any of the Office programs. I
have ran system restore on numerous occasions, which undoes the updates and
allows me to run the program. However, when I go back to that point, the
computer re-downloads the updates, and even when I try and clean-boot the
computer, it installs the updates before it reboots. I am running McAfee
Security Center (Virus Scan, Spam Killer, Privacy Service, Firewall), Webroot
Spy Sweeper , and Cisco Clean Access Agent. I've tried disabling spy sweeper,
but it is one giant pain as my administrator account evidently doesn't have
sufficient rights to kill the Spy Sweeper engine. I've tried the clean boot
method as well, and even when it manages not to install updates, it still
causes the same issues. I apologize for my sour disposition, but this has
been frustrating. I'd appreciate any advice or ideas that might help;
Microsoft Office is really crucial out here. Thanks!
