I must be a microsoft project 2003 server idiot. I have installed the
software on the project managers computer...but I don't know how to install
the server portion on our server. Where is the install on the cd....is there
an install on the cd....I have done everything, I have even installed
microsoft project 2003 on the server to see if that would help...no
luck....Can some one point me in the right direction?

Have you installed MS Project SERVER with SQL Server and possibly SharePoint?

What are you trying to accomplish?

First of all, thanks for your response....

I am trying to get Microsoft Project Server running on our SBS server here
at work...I want the employees to input thier time into timesheets and the
project manager to assign tasks....We have one project manager and 6
employees.....What I have read is that this can be manged all through the
server function of the program....the problem is that I don't know how to
install it.

If this is your first time installing this, be aware this is a non-trivial
task. If you are running a small business (<25 people), this may not be the
best use of your time. The learning curve on this reasonably steep
(Installation Guide is 250+ pages). I do not wish to discourage you,
however, my experience has shown that this is not a task for management. If
you decide that you want to do this, have a pro (or at least someone who has
done it before), or take the installation and configuration training class.

If you have 6 resources and 1 project manager, I would be very hard pressed
to recommend using project server... especially if the number of projects is
small (<10). Only you can make the call. I suspect (based on the info) that
project will do the job nicely.

In addition, I do not know if SBS server meets the requirement for project
server. This should be verified before installing (if I recall correctly
project server has problems with SBS server). I would strongly recommend
reading the system requirements and the installatio guide before installing
project server.

I have the project 2003 professional version and the second cd that is for
service pack 1....nothing that says project server on it.......I have a
feeling I have a problem.

Yes you do need project server 2003....cd then only you will be able to
leverage EPM.

Thanks

I am also trying to get a project solution running. I had a copy of Project
Central but was unable to get it configured. So I opted to try Project Server
2003, but I have not been able to get it installed. I am getting an error of:

error 25624 failed to execute sql string

which then causes my install to roll back.

You say you don't recommend this option for small groups, but my team is
spread across the country and I need to be able to have them track their time
and tasks in an online situation. Can you recommend something else for us?

I will provide a recommendation, however, only through e-mail.
