Microsoft Project Server 2007, continual issues with check-in

Jerry

Hi guys,

I am just about at my wit's end with this check in
pending status I have been recieving which makes it impossible for me to edit
my file. I have tried everything you guys have suggested in previous threads
including trying to clear the local cache etc, to no avail. And when I close
the read-only version of this file, I get a response saying

"The following job failed to complete

Job Type:Save

Error ID:

Description:

This project could not be saved to the server. Please retry saving the
project. If the problem persists, save as a MPP file and contact system
administrator."

Please note that there was nothing next to the error id and description. Any
help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers guys.

Hi,

I'm not sure if you're having issues with just one project or it is
recurring issue. I know that check-in is not the most bug-free process - I'm
hoping the latest patches will address some of it.

If it is a single project, I would try the following:
1. Look in your queue for any failing projects. You may need to extend
your time-frame back a number of days or weeks if this has been going on for
a while. Probably best to reduce the type of Job Completion States or you'll
get pages of results.
2. If there are any failing go back to any that are of Queue Position 1 and
Cancel it - remember you'll need to check the Cancel Jobs Getting Enqueued
checkbox.
3. Repeat until there are no Getting Queued or Failed And Blocking
Correlation projects.
4. Go to Force Check-In and check in the offending project from PWA.
5. In Project Server Professional clear your cache.
6. For good measure you might want to go to your Cache Location (Cache
Settings) and physically delete from this drive.

Now try re-opening the project and checking in from Project Professional -
it should hopefully work.
Please note:
- Any data that wasn't successfully checked in when the problem occured
will be lost
- I *think* deleting manually from the Cache Location on your hard-drive is
fine, but please don't blame me if it goes wrong.
- Actually, apply that to all the above ;-)

Hope that helps,

Jonathan

Jerry,

Try deleting the files in the cache folder. Tools>Local Project Cache>Cache
Settings>Cache Location. This is where the cache folder is located. Use My
Computer to navigate to the folder location and delete everything inside the
cache folder.

When you go to open your schedule you should have to click the "Retrieve the
list of all projects..." because you will no longer have schedules in the
cache. I have seen a corrupted .dat file cause projects to remain as "Check
In Pending" even when the cache is clean and the server does not show the
schedule as checked out. This has always solved the problem.
