Microsoft Query Editor Crashes Frequently

R

I am using the Microsoft Query Editor along with the Actual Technologies ODBC driver for MySQL to import external data. If I try to do anything outside of the SQL view, the editor crashes. If I try to edit a query, it almost always crashes. IS anyone else having a similar experience? Any suggestions on how to resolve this? It makes Excel 2008 basically unusable for me.

Hi Ryan,

Have you installed the latest version of the ODBC driver? I think updates
are free. You need to have the latest version installed to work with Office
2008.

Definitely make sure you have the latest version of the driver
installed, available here:

http://www.actualtechnologies.com/download.php

If you continue to see crash, please send me the crash report, which
should be located at:

/Users/<account name>/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/Microsoft
Query.crash.log

We'll do everything we can to help you get back up and running with
our driver and Excel 2008.

It appears the problem is with MSQuery on a the Intel Macs. It is the same realbasic program that is available for download from Microsoft Mac downloads. It's been around since the last office that worked on OS 9. It seems that since the application only works under Rosetta, it can't interact with Universal programs like ODBC connectors.

I was extremely disappointed to see that this very useful tool has not been upgraded to work Universally and has become useless. It has left us in a dilemma on how to do our SQL Queries with Excel.

Hi,

Although not the most stable aspect of office, I've been able to get my
queries to run successfully.

Is there a specific query or type of query that's failing for you?

The Actual Technologies ODBC driver is now a dual binary. Can you be more
specific about what is not working?

Thanks.

While it's true that MS Query is not a Universal Binary, it works just
fine in Rosetta. It can certainly work with Universal Binary ODBC
drivers (it just uses the PowerPC fork of the UB instead of the Intel
fork).

MS Query is not as polished as the rest of MS Office, but it is
certainly adequate for creating queries.
