Microsoft Query: Test Works, Data Import Doesn't

B

Ben Reilly

I am attempting to connect to a Filemaker Pro database using Microsoft
Query. After building the query I want and clicking test, I get the
expected result in the preview window.

When I click "Get data" and am returned to Excel, no data is put into
my spreadsheet.

Is there something different done with the test than with the actual query?

Anybody got any ideas?

Best wishes,

Ben

Hi Ben -

Since you don't specify any versions this is just a guess, but have you also
obtained & installed an ODBC Driver? If so, which one?

Hi

Sorry, should have mentioned. I'm running Office 2004 with all updates
and FileMaker Pro 8. The ODBC driver I'm using is the SequeLink.bundle
driver supplied by Filemaker.

Best wishes,

Then that is most likely your problem. The driver supplied with FMP allows
it to interact with ODBC sources, but XL isn't one. Although FMP can
*import* data from XL, it can't *send* to it. In order for XL to import from
FMP I believe XL needs its own driver which is available from third-party
sources such as;

Hi Ben,

Your supposition is correct. The data should have been returned to
Excel. Troubleshooting this will be trial and error.

First, visit the site of the ODBC driver and make sure everything is up
to date and that it is compatible with the versions of Excel and
FileMaker that you have.

If the driver is the right version, get Apple's Disk Utility fired up
and have it repair permissions and verify the disk.

Try again.

If things still aren't better then try one of the other ODBC drivers
suggested by CyberTaz and see if that works.
