Microsoft Spreadsheet

My son and I had files in microsoft spreadsheet. Our
motherboard died and we got a new computer. We now have
Excel as our only spreadsheet. How can we read or print
the old microsoft spreadsheet files, so we can put the
files into Excel. I have no hard copy, only a backup
disc.

Were they Works ,*.wks, files?
If so I believe the only option is to open files in Works and save in a
format that Excel can open.
