"Microsoft Visio has stopped working" Error When exiting Visio 200

I am using Visio 2003 on Windows Vista and everytime I close the application
I get the following error message:
"Microsoft Visio has stopped working; A problem caused the program to stop
working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a
solution is available"
Does anyone know what causes this? Is a setting somewhere or is it a more
systemic problem??

I managed to find the solution myself. Go to Tools > Options and go to the
security tab. There uncheck the "Enable COM Add-ins" option and it exits fine!

This is specifically caused by a Bluetooth driver on Windows Vista systems.
You may try updating your driver or see if you can selectively disable
add-ins. Disabling all COM Add-ins may be overkill.

Mark (or whoever is following this forum now), is there more detail on the
Visio/Bluetooth driver incompatibility? I am experiencing the same problem
with Vision Pro 2003/SP3 on Vista Ultimate SP1. I have no COM Add-ons
defined, but following your advice was able to get Visio to shutdown
gracefully. I am using a Broadcom 5.1.2535.0 Bluetooth driver but am puzzled
how it could be causing a Visio failure since I normally do not have
Bluetooth enabled. There is a newer driver available, but I tend to be
reluctant to update drivers unless I am experiencing a problem.
Thanks, Norbert

Hi Norbert,

The issue occurs because of a failure of a SendTo add-in to unload
gracefully when Visio is closing down, and it seems that the options are
only present (as far as i know) on vista systems.

The Bluetooth functionality does not have to be enabled for the SendTo
option to be added for Office applications. In order to resolve the
problem, the Broadcom driver and utilities must be updated, which is
something that should be obtained from your hardware OEM. Broadcom
provides the driver and utilities, but the PC manufacturer is responsible
for providing updates for their hardware directly.

Its now 2009 and this problem still persists. When I try and disable the
bluetooth add-in, I get a meesage that says "the connected state o fOffice
Add-ins registered in HEY_LOCAL_MACHINE cannot be changed"

This is really dumb - How many years does a problem need to persist before
Microsoft actually gets around to fixing it? This is why so many people
cheer when Microsoft gets sued - for any reason.

I had this too. Probably because you are running Vista. All you have to do
is do it while running as an administator. Right click on start shortcut
holding down <shift> and "run as". You will then be able to untick it.

Thanks for your postings on this issue. Worked for me.
