Well, as we all can see, there might be some centralized source for
additional Visio shapes.
I think that almost every company using Visio is looking for some other
shapes and is unable to find them.
Is there some creative community or a library of such self-made shapes?
Or some training course, which would clear things out, which tools are
required and how to use them in order to create some shapes...

Shape creation IMO is really two issues, the first being what it should look
like and secondly how it interacts with the underlying structure (i.e.
connections, data, events, etc.). The key to understanding the shapes is in
understanding the shapesheet for which David Edsons book and Graham Widemans
reference are essential knowledge. You can also check the on-line data at
MSDN.

There are also two articles on ShapeStudio in MSDN that may be of help. For
references to third party sites you can check John Marshall's site at
www.mvps.org/visio. John also has a good list of reference books on his
site.

Well, the architectural part, which seems to fit mostly, isn't fuctional
anymore:
http://www.office-objects.com/
We need to have created a professionally looking map of our office, which
resides on two floors of the same building. Our sales manager asked me to
find some shapes for him to do that.
How do you think, is creating our own shapes & stencils is the only way to
obtain them, or I've just missed some?
Of course, creating our own ones would be very useful for my skills, but
also more time-consuming...

And, thank you for your answers, John & Al.

Have you got Visio 2003 Professional?
There are a lot of very flexible shapes in there for creating office
layouts.

Yes.
We have Microsoft Office Visio Professional 2003 (11.3216.5606)
Now that I think about it, we'd be glad to find not only architectural
schemes, but also some more of "network" ones. Like those used on Microsoft's
website or of similar quality.
And still, our sales manager wants all the architectural parts of office
plan in all the details for a reason. That's what he wants me to find
online...
