Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error on all Microsoft Applications

A

Azadeh

I am running Microsoft XP Professional on the XP Home
operating system. For some reason for the last two weeks
we have been unable to use any of our microsoft products -
we can go into the application (e.g. word, ie, etc..)
but will eventually get a Microsoft Visual C++ Error
saying the application has requested that it be
terminated in an abnormal way.

Does anyone have a clue as to why this error keeps coming
up and how to solve it - I've even tried to set the
computer back to an earlier date which worked for a while
but then the problem came back the next day.

HELP!

A "runtime" error means that there is an error in a macro or add-in
that is attempting to run. Typically these macros are created by a
third-party and are not part of the Office installation. (They could
also be caused by a malfunctioning macro virus as well)

Many third-party applications will create an add-in and place it in
the Office\Startup folder to integrate their software with the Office
applications. (Excel uses the XLStart folder)

In Word go to Tools/Templates and Add-Ins and see if there are any
global templates or add-ins listed. If you find any then chances are
they are located in your Office\Startup folder or Word\Startup folder.

The location of the Word\Startup folder can be found under
Tools/Options/File Locations and the Office\Startup folder will be
located in the installation path for Office.

For Excel check your Ulster folder.

Move any files you find from the Startup folders one at a time until
you find the offending add-in.
