Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error -- Word 2002

Every time I close Word, I get the following error:

Runtime Error!
Program C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 10\WINWORD.EXE
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual
way. Please contact the application's support team for more information

I do not have any add-ins, and there is nothing in my Startup folder. Doing
a Detect and Repair did not solve the problem.

What could be causing this error, and how do I fix it?

Word is not crashing when it opens, it is when I close Word that I get the
runtime error.

Also, I recently installed Adobe Acrobat 7.0.8, which is the latest version.
Could that be the cause?

Despite the title of the article, it applies to problems opening, closing,
and using Word.

Probably the article should be retitled. Or maybe we need a section on
"FAQs about FAQs".

Possibly it would help to change it to ProbsOpenCloseWord.htm! I still don't
understand why the users won't accept the advice and read it rather than
waste more time posting back.
