Hi.

I just bought Microsoft Office for Mac. Is there a way to get the
software to display Japanese text in the menu bar so that my wife can
better use Microsoft Office?

No. You need a Japanese version to display the Japanese user interface.
The Japanese version will switch to English, the English version will not
switch to Japanese.
