Microsoft Windows... Why such a hassle?

concerned customer

My only hope is that somebody from Microsoft is reading this.
I work in a research lab at the University of Pennsylvania where we
have both Macintosh and PC computers. This is my first exposure to
Macintosh, which I previously hated. But I gotta tell you, using OS-X is
incredibly less frustrating. When there are product updates, say once a
month, the process is extremely easy and hassle-free; Not once have they
rushed an "Update" or "Service Pack" to their customers when it still
included numerous bugs. Additionally, Windows Updates are annoyingly
frequent.
It may be because I haven't had a very long time to use OS-X, but NOT
ONCE has the operating system told me to go search the entire house for my OS
Installation CD. I just do not understand why Microsoft assumes that we all
sit in front of our computers with the Windows XP Installation CD in hand,
ready to install some file that is needed due to the installation of a
"Service Pack" or "Update." It just makes common sense to me that such files
should be included in the update, which may, sorry Microsoft, mean that at
least the minimal amount of planning is required to update an operating
system. This frustration is ongoing and I see no end (at least with
Microsoft). While it is certainly not the only problem I have experienced,
my recent hassle with Windows has to deal with the post-SP2 error message
"Please spend hours searching your house (or office or laboratory) for the
freakin OS CD of which you made a HUGH mistake in thinking you only needed it
once for installation, because we cannot find proret.msi."
My problem is not solved, nor do I know when I will find my lab's
Windows CD to correct this problem, but for now we will all use our Mac
version of MS Excel. Thank you Microsoft.

I don't know if everything I say is technically accurate, but I want
Microsoft to get an idea of what frustrates its customers. STOP TELLING ME
TO GO FIND MY WINDOWS CD, that's a terrible message.

joust in jest

1.) This is not Microsoft -- this is a newsgroup where users help users.

2.) This is not a Windows newsgroup. This is, as the title suggests, a forum
for posting problems one is having with MS Office and (usually) finding
solutions to those MS Office problems.

The Mac computer is supplied 'as is'.. you can't buy clone Macs.. it is
either a Mac or it isn't.. the Mac OS runs on Mac supplied computers only,
with 'made for Mac' components..

The Windows OS is expected to work on a system made by IBM, HP, Compaq etc,
a clone supplied by a store, or something cobbled together by a kid.. it is
the most highly targeted OS by hackers as it has almost global coverage..
