Microsoft Word 2000 (Win ME) quit - will not open

I cannot open Microsoft Word as of 2 days ago. I was able to access Word
through My Computer, but after shutting down the computer and opening it the
next day, all that shows is the Microsoft Window and the hourglass. I tried
reinstalling Office 2000, but no luck. How can I access my Word files or get
Word to work again?

I opened up Problems Opening Word and read through the 7 pages. I recall
deleting an icon from the Start menu - would that have caused Microsoft Word
to not open up? Should I try to reinstall the icon?

Reply #2 - I just checked the Start menu - the icon is still there. I did a
System Restore after I deleted it to try to get MS Word to work, so the icon
shows up. I am baffled.

What happens if you select a Word document from the Documents list on the
Start menu? Or double-click a Word document in Windows Explorer (My
Computer)? Or click Start | Run, type winword, and press Enter?

I tried all 3 methods. Nothing will open MS Word. I just get the SYSTEM IS
BUSY window: The system is waiting for the close program dialog box to be
displayed...
I chose the CRTL+ALT+DEL after the keystrokes would not work.
Then I get this message:
The system is dangerously low in resources. Would you like to terminate the
following application? Winword (not responding)
After clicking YES, I have to wait for the system to reboot OR I have to use
the power button to shut down the computer.
Any more suggestions?

As well as reading all 7 pages, did you actually do any of the tests? For
example, what happens when you start Word in Safe Mode?
