Microsoft Word 2000 ; Windows 98 Second Edition

When I try to use word 2000, the hour glass just continues
to indicate that it is coming up but it never does. The
Word screen sits there but it never comes up.

When I hit the control delete button I get a message that
resources are dangerously low and it asks if i want to end
the task by clicking Yes, No or Cancel.

I must always hit Yes to end the task and then reboot my
computer.

Does anyone know how to solve this problem ?
