Microsoft Word 2002 error 1706

[still learning after 10 years]

I started getting this error when I went into Control Panel, then to Add or
Remove Programs, then highlighted the Microsoft Word 2002 then clicked on
"Click here for support", then clicking on the "Repair" button. Now I can't
stop Install Wizard from running when I click on my Word icon on my Desktop.
If I hit Cancel on Install Wizard, Word opens. Would like to know how to
stop Install Wizard from trying to locate the file to reinstall Word??????

I appreciate any advice!

This can be caused by several things, but to correct it you will need
to zap the Windows Installer entry in the Registry and reinstall
Office.

Obtain the following utility and use it to remove only the reference
to Office. Once that is complete then you'll need to reinstall Office
to point the Windows Installer to your installation CD:
