I sometimes received e-mail that has an attachment that was created in Word
different versions. Sometime from Mac users and sometimes from PC user. I
cannot open the the attachment. It asks me where this doc. was created I
browse and look for word. When Word opens up it says "This document has to be
converted with Binhex" and then the text is all garbled. Does this mean that
my word is not set up properly. How do I convert with binhex and why does it
not just open up with the text.

Binhex is the most common Mac compressed format, like Zip is on
Windows. You have to uncompress the attachment to get an editable
file. WinZip and a number of other Windows programs can uncompress
Binhex files.

Hint: Do *not* try to work with the file while it's still attached to
the email. Use the "Save As" function to save it somewhere on your
hard drive, and then open it with the uncompression program.

I saved the file on my desk top. and then opened it thru winzip. Word opened
and and a box opened up and asked convert to and showed a list of different
text.
Whatever I picked did not work. the same garbled text appeared with open
with binhex message.
