Microsoft Word 2003 Error trying to open the file

I am getting a error everytime I try to open something in word.
The error says:
Microsoft Office Word experienced an error trying to open the file.
Try these suggestions:
*Check the file permission for document or drive
*Make sure there is sufficient free memory and disk space
*Open the file with Text Recovery Converter.
Done all of these and still not working. I would love to have any advice on
this.

Where are you trying to open the file from? Hard drive? Removable drive?
Email attachment?

I have tried it from both a cd and on hard drive

Word won't let you open a file from a CD. You should be able to open it from
the HD, but if you have copied it from a CD, it will be Read Only until you
change the attribute.

There seems to be some mixup in this Forum.
I answered your question, but you don't seem to be able to read it,
so I repeat it here for you:

I am having the same problem did you ever figure out how to get it fixed and
what fixed it. I also have done the Open and Repair thing and it didn't work.
It is with Microsoft Word 2003. Please help I am trying to print out
applications and resumes.

It says:

.... you need to re-register Word. To fix the problem:

Word 97 and above
1. Click Start | Run (bottom- left corner of your screen).
2. In the “Open“ box, type:
winword /r
and press Enter. Note that there is a space before the forward slash
