Microsoft Word 2003 won't open .doc on intranet

XxLicherxX

Hello,

I am having a problem with a certain computer. I have been searching
Google and the MS Knowledge base and can't find any answer. If I try to
open a linked .doc (for example http://intranet/document.doc) Word will
open up and give this useless error:

"Could not open http://intranet/document.doc"

Why does this happen? I can open this link just fine on any other
machine in the company. What makes this more frustrating is that this
just started happening without reason. This machine worked fine a week
ago.

Any suggestions or do should I just dump it and try reinstalling?

Thanks

Are you able to open files outside of Word by double-clicking them? If
not then the problem could be caused by an error in your file
associations. Go to Start/Run and run:

winword /r

Note the space before the forward slash.

Also, do you use Norton AV as your virus scanner? If so then go to
Norton Options and in the Miscellaneous section turn off "Enable
Office Plug-in".

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.
