MICROSOFT WORD 2004 CRASHES UPON LAUNCHING

Microsoft Word 2004: MAC crashes as soon as launched. Don't know why, except
that I tried uploading word documents from a PC via a flash drive. These
Word documents wouldn't open in my MAC. Perhaps this caused the problem.
Otherwise, I've used this application for years without incident. I'd
appreciate hearing some suggestions of what i might do to fix this.

Unfortunately you've omitted the most important details needed to assess a
case like this [but should be included in any posting] - specific version &
update levels of OS X as well as Office - so we'll start with the basics...

Make sure that OS X is fully updated, preferably using the Combo Updater
from the Apple Downloads site rather than relying on what comes
automatically via Software Update. If you're running Tiger you should be at
10.4.11 & 10.5.6 is current for Leopard. The link to Apple Downloads if you
need it is:

http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/

Next, make sure that Office 2004 is fully updated - 11.5.3 is where it
should be. Use Help> Check for Updates if you aren't at that level.

Once everything is fully updated the most likely causes of crash on launch:

Disk Permissions issues
Add-in conflicts
Font problems

Repair Disk Permissions using Apples Disk Utility or comparable tool. For
help on the others see this page & follow the suggestions in the order
listed for "Unexpected Quit on Startup". If necessary go on to the remedies
pertaining to preferences & testing the Normal template.
