Microsoft Word 2007 has started crashing with every document.

My Microsoft Word 2007 has started crashing with every document I create or
have open. It will shut down and upon renewing, my document will try to come
back up and Microsoft will ask if I want it to save the document, but it will
crash again before I can do anything. On the last two times it crashed, I
asked to see the details of the Error Report. The first time, there were 2
files that seemed to be causing the problem:
C:\DOCUME~1\ANNED~1.POW\LOCALS~1\Temp\6061578.cvr and the other was
C:\DOCUME~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\6061640.od. The 2nd time it crashed, the two files
involved were the same...just the numbers of the .cvr and .od files had
changed. I've been through the Office Diagnostics, and no problems were
discovered. Any ideas? Thanks!

What happens if you start Word in Safe Mode? From Start Run (Winkey+R) type
in

winword /a

and press enter. Does it still crash when you open a document?

Hi Terry,

I had the same problem with the freeze on every time I colse a document.
When I opened it with start run winword /a it seemed to work fine (one try so
far). Thank you for the ease of finding the solution.

That's not the solution: it is a test to see if Word is OK.

Starting in Safe Mode starts Word in its default install condition bypassing
all customizations, add-ins, macros, templates and everything else. So it
proved that Word is OK and that you have a rogue add-in that is causing your
closing problem. This is most often a template that has been placed in the
Word Startup folder by something like an OCR, FAX or PDF utility. You need
to investigate which add-in is causing the problem and then checking with
the |Internet support site for the vendor to see if they have an update to
resolve the problem.

Based on your comments that Word runs correctly using the startup command
winword.exe /a then do this:

With Word closed, search for and then rename your "normal.dot" file. Restart
Word as you would usually start it and test. If Word runs fine, that means
there was a corruption in the "normal.dot" template. Word creates a new copy
if it cannot find one.

You realise this is two months old?

What difference does it make if it is two years old? The information provided
was a bit of a miss since the normal.dot file would be one of the first
things to check and no one has mentioned it. Since I just joined the forums
within the last two days, I guess I should have pre-dated my posting? You're
straining at a gnat.

No. The point I am making is that the likelihood of the poster coming back
and reading this is infinitesimal.
