Microsoft Word 2007 Slow on Startup

Hello all,

I just upgraded my Pro 2003 install to a Pro 2007on my desktop. I run a pro
2007 on my laptop (which runs Vista) and have no problem with it. Word takes
forever to load on my desktop (close to a min) -- I have 2G of memory, and
plenty of memory when I click on start. One more thing I noticed -- when I
click on a word document, Word starts but the document does not load.

Anyone have any ideas as to what might be happening? Thank you in advance!

Does it start OK in Safe Mode? Start, Run and type in

winword /a

and press enter. If it starts OK in Safe mode, then I'd suspect the legacy
normal.dot or something similar is partially corrupt. Try following the FAQ
to see if it helps:

That proves it is a legacy utility (or old normal.dot) causing the problem.
You still need to go through FAQ and find the cause as you cannot use the /a
switch permanently: it stops any changes, customization or legitimate
add-ins from working.
