Microsoft Word 2007

Hi there, please help!
I have bought Microsoft Word 2007 and installed it 2 months on my PC
(running Vista). Whenever I start it I get an error message
"Microsoft Office Word has stopped working" (Check online for a
solution and close the program or close the program).
I have uninstalled and reinstalled and this makes no difference.
Any ideas?
Graham

Has it been like this for two months or is this a recent problem? Do all the
other Office 2007 apps open correctly?

Does it open in Safe Mode? From Start, Run, type in

winword /a

and press enter. Does Word open now?

Hi Terry, Since I have a similar problem to this gentleman, I tried typing
run, then winword /a and now my mouse works--hooray! However, does this mean
I am working in safe mode? --Jami Lou

It means that you probably left Word running whilst an update was applied
which has corrupted your Word registry entries. You need to use Run
(Winkey+R) regedit, navigate to Word Data listed below and delete it.

Word Data Key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data

Hi Terry-I am having a similar problem to this gentleman. Although in my
case, Word has been working fine for over year and now it having problems.
When I try to open Microsoft Word it tries to run a configuration for
Microsoft Home and Office 2007 but never completes. If I try to open a Word
document an error message appears saying the document cannot be found. When I
try to open Excel it says that there is not enough memory for the
application. I tried your suggestion to run winword /a to check for add-ons
however when I did this it just got
stuck on "preparing to install". I have tried to install an Office 2007
update "Update for Windows Vista-English, however this update never
completes, it just locks my system.

Hi Terry, thanks for posting this help.
It has been like this for about 3 months now. Excel works OK but
Powerpoint is the same as Word
It does not open in safe mode - I tried your instructions and I got
exactly the same error message.
Something else I did try though was set a new user account on my
computer. Excel, Word, Powerpoint started to work OK, however after
2/3 days I encountered the same problem. I think this happened as
after 2/3 days I I copied across all my data, pictures, music etc,
including the files in C:\Documents and Settings\Old_Username folder.
Do you have any idea how to permanently remove this problem?

That doesn't make sense to me. If it works with a new profile, it should
work using the /a switch. There's something you are not following correctly.

See the following FAQ for help diagnosing this problem.

A lot of what you can do depends on whether your Word 2007 is a download or
if youpurchased a hard copy, always the preference. This is what I would do;
1. If you purchased a download, ask the place from which you bought it to
refund your money or send you a hard copy of the product at once. If they
won't do it, ascertain that the download you got is still valid and make sure
that you get this IN WRITING from anyone who sells you a download. Be sure
that you also have a statement of the amount of time that your download is
valid and available.

2. Get yourself a good, reliable flashdrive of at least 8Gb. I like
ScanDisk because: [a] it's not only an excellent product, but you can store
your information in your own little corner of the internet where nobody can
get to it your flashdrive information is always available to you in the
event that your flash drive is damaged or lost.

3. Back up every single document in my computer that is there.

4. Uninstall the present Word system that you have

5. Do a System Restore, preferable to the time when your problem began.
Your documents should not be affected, but just in case, you've done your
flashdrive download as suggested above.

6. If you can't restore back to the point when your problem started, go
back as far as you can.

7. After the system restore is finished, do the new download, or if you've
gotten the company to send you a hard copy, install Word again.

The Uninstall and the system restore should have gotten rid of any of the
causes of the problems you are having. I had to do a system restore on a new
computer. I'm not sure what happened, but the laptop was just not working.
I did all of the above, using a hard copy instead of a download which I'd
purchased to begin with. It worked very well. The only problem I'm having
now, is that the page jumps all over the place and nothing seems to stop it -
and that's in Word, Excel, in any internet pages - you name it - but I
haven't found a "cure" for it yet.

To me, Word 2007 was and will always be one giant brain belch that was done
so that Microsoft wouldn't have any copywright infringement problems. They
coiuld have done something much less disastrous. This is just a horror show,
even though I've learned how to get around it well. I absolutely HATE what
they're done with the graphics capabilities in Word, and I'm totally
disgusted with their so-called Help with their little Question Mark that
seems more brain injured than right brained.

I've always hated the fact that you have to pay so much for their products,
and can't EVER talk to a human being when the little HELP mark isn't helping.
The Sherman Anti-Trust Act was the start of supposedly starting to take care
of little monopoly problems like this. Funny. I still feel abused by
Microsoft's hold on the market.

Sorry - I printed in there that you should download all my documents, when I
obviousbly didn't mean that. I was being distracted by my two cats who seem
to like me most when I'm on the computer. My grandchildren don't walk all ov
er me when I'm on the computer. At any rate, I meant for you to download
YOUR documents. Sorry if I put you into the Twilight Zone for a moment there.
