Microsoft Word 2008 for Mac Menu gone

D

dilation

I was trying to customize my toolbars and menus and looks like I did
something that got everything to disappear. Only thing I have on the top left
hand corner are Apple menu/Word/Automator that looks like a scroll and
nothing else.

I tried to remove everything and reinstall but can't get the default menu.
Apparently even when I delete the entire Office both manual and using the
remove program, it leaves something behind.

I only see two possible solutions and if anyone knows how I can resolve
either one I would VERY much appreciate your input:

1. Delete everything related to Microsoft Office from my HD including all the
hidden files.
2. Somehow pull up the "Customize Toolbars and Menus" window using a keyboard
shortcut, if any.

I think you have been hit by The Infernal Blue Jellybean Bug

Look at the extreme top right corner of the Word window. You will see a
small jelly-bean-shaped button which glows blue if you click it.

It hides the user interface...

God knows why they thought that was a good idea...

Click it again to bring your toolbars back.

Cheers

Before going any further let me stress one point for future reference:
Reinstalling Office is *rarely* a cure for any malady & manually deleting
Office components is even more rarely the recommended approach. The program
files are seldom damaged & the files that do corrupt don't get touched by
reinstalling. You'll also have to reapply all Office updates for your
version & repair disk permissions before it will do any good to proceed.

Before anyone can help you, however, you need to let us know what version of
Office you're using. It would be good to indicate which version of OS X as
well. We can't do much if we don't know what we're dealing with. Also, there
is no default keystroke to get into the Customize dialog, but that isn't
where the problem can be corrected even though that may be where it
originated :). Once you supply the needed info we may be able to get things
right without having to do another Remove & Install - and even if that
proves necessary there is a recommended procedure to point you to.

BTW - My friend John may have misread your situation - the oblong button he
referred to hides/displays docked toolbars & has no effect on the Menu
Bar... But please forgive him. I happen to know he had been up for quite a
long time prior to responding to your post :)
