Microsoft Word 2008 for Mac Version 12.0.0 (070919)

MacBook Pro, OSX 10.4.10

I am using this new version of Microsoft Office, a 'beta' version, and
a splash window tells me that this beta version has a diminishing
number of days (now 8) remaining, and that i should visit the web site
for information.

Having done that, I discover not a word or mention of this beta
release.

This is new to me. This version which, so far, I like, was acquired
from a colleague at work. We use a liscenced product, but I don't know
the provenance of this beta release.

Is anyone experienced in this matter, or similar matters, who can
advise me as to what to do to overcome this approaching deadline?

I would like to simply update what we have.

Thank you.

Hello Geoff,

Here's my take:

There has been no public beta release of Office 2008. Therefore, your copy
of a beta originated, ultimately, in someone violating the terms of their
non-disclosure agreement with Microsoft. That is rather serious. There may
be legal consequences of acquiring such a copy.

To "overcome this approaching deadline", you would be best advised to remove
this illegal copy from your computer. Like me, you'll be able to buy a
legal copy early in the new year.

[I am not a Microsoft employee.]

Hi Geoff:

I agree with Clive. The copy you have MUST have been stolen. I would get
it off your machine before the police come around :)

Hint: I would do this "sooner" rather than later ‹ I suspect there may be
something magical about the number of days it says are remaining...

Whoever provided it to you is going to have some nasty legal problems any
minute :)

Cheers

Additional to the comments from Clive & John, I'd suggest you spend the rest
of your remaining days re-saving any files you've generated in the Beta's
format to one that's compatible with a currently legitimate version of the
programs. Otherwise you may never get into those files again even if you
eventually obtain a legal copy of 2008 when it ships... It's not unusual for
the released product to not support their own prior beta formats.

....And tell your "friend" that he/she has done *no one* any favors by
violating the NDA.
