Microsoft Word 2010 Beta doesnt recognise old word files immediate

D

I have just installed MS Word 2010 beta. Unfortunately, existing word
documents created in MS Word 2002 are not immediately recognised by MS 2010.
If I first open 2010 and go to file loaction the docs will open fine. However
, if i double click on a pre-existing word doc it does not know what
programme to use to open it.

I have tried finding the winword file to open it but get this message...
".doc is not a valid Win32 application"

Is there anyway to solve this issue as it is really inconvenient to have to
open Word 2010 each time and manually find the location of the file to open
it.

Many thanks
Dan

In Windows Explorer, right click on a Word document (.doc) and from the
shortcut menu, Open with and then Choose Default Program.

Hi Doug

Thank you for responding to my question. Unfortunately I can't seem to find
the correct program. If i hunt through the office folder and get to the
folder office14 I can see the programs for Excel, Winword, Powerpnt etc...
but when i try and open the doc with Winword I only get the option of opening
with Microsoft Office 2010 component. I have set the doc files to default
open with Winword but when i try and open them it says *.doc is not a valid
Win32 application.

I have no idea what to do. I have re-installed the beta a couple of times to
see if this helps but it makes no difference.

Thx again for taking the time to offer some advice

Try the fix in the article "How to re-register Word when problems crop up
opening files†at:

Doug, thank you for responding.

I've tried doing this but it makes no difference. I'm really struggling with
this. It's odd that I seem to be one of the few people who have this problem.

I'm not sure why but when i try and link it to winword, i only get the
option open with "Microsoft Office 2010 Component"... could this be where
things are going wrong?

Thanks

Dan

I am not quite sure what you mean when you say "try and link to winword"
Are you clicking on the Browse button in the Open with dialog and navigating
to the Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 14 folder and selecting
Winword.exe?
