Microsoft Word and Excel (all products) will NOT open or run.

Version: v.X When trying to open a new document or a saved document in any of the Microsoft products it will not open and an error message comes up saying:
"The application Word quit unexpectedly. Mac OS X and other applications are not affected."

When opening word it will open and then after a couple seconds close and not give a reason as to why.

The most likely causes are lack of updates (both OS X & Office) and need of
repairing disk permissions. Tend to those matters & see if the problem
persists after a restart of your Mac.

I did an update and nothing came up for Microsoft, how do I go about "repairing disk permissions". I have also tried restarting the Mac and it still does not fix the problem.

It may no longer be available from AutoUpdate since that version of Office
has been deprecated for more than 2 years. Before anything else that update
needs to be confirmed. Go to the Word menu & select About Word. If the
version is not indicated as 10.1.9 you can retrieve the update from here:

As for repairing permissions: There is an Apple program in your
Applications/Utilities folder named Disk Utility. Launch it, select your HD
from the left panel then click the Repair Disk Permissions button on the
First Aid page.

You have not told us the version and update level of your Mac or your
Microsoft Office, so we can't answer.
