Microsoft Word (and Excel) Readers

AAPES

I'm trying to download the Microsoft Word (and Excel) Readers for my
Mac mini but only find .exe files on the Microsoft download page. I was
able to download the Powerpoint Reader successfully (using Stuffit to
expand the downloaded file) and it runs in Classic mode. But I don't
find similar expandable files for the Excel and Word Readers. Can
anyone help? Thanks.

Hello Paul,

I know that Microsoft definitely has no Mac reader for Word; I suspect but
do not know that the same applies to an Excel reader.

Maybe use a low-cost word processor that can open .doc files?

MacLink Plus, by Dataviz, converts all sorts of file formats too.

However, some Word document formatting are a bit beyond them, I'm told.

Cheers,

I second Clive's typically reserved - but always accurate - pronouncement...
there are no MS viewers for Office:Mac files other than PPt. However, if you
can enlighten us a little on why you believe you need them, there may be
some alternatives you haven't considered.

You already have a Word reader on your mac. TextEdit reads Word .doc files
(and can even save documents as .doc too - naturally it's missing most of
the bells and whistles). I believe that NeoOffice, which is free, both reads
and writes all types of Office files, including Excel files, with some
fidelity. <http://www.neooffice.org/> Naturally it can't give you everything
Office does, but I believe it goes a long way towards it.
