Microsoft Word Crash

Sigi Hale

Word crashes on me all the time! I'm running the most recent 10.2.6.
I just updated microsoft office to the most current available.
Sometimes Word freezes (spinning color wheel) or sometimes it just
closes all together. I'm running a program called Endnote along with
word. My Endnote program is up to date (version 6.0.2).

Anyone else have this problem? Any fixes? I really can't work like
this and I'm wondering what my options are? I'm not sure if the
crashing has anything to do with Endnote?

Thanks for your time!

Hi Sigi,

There are known conflicts between Word and EndNote 6 but they result in
seeing red X's instead of graphics. The workaround for that problem is to
remove EndNote's "Cite While You Write" (CWYW) add-ins from the Word X
startup folder. You can try this but you're talking about a different
problem so it probably won't help.

Next, I suggest you try repairing permissions: Go to Macintosh
HD/Applications/Utilities. Open up Disk Utility. Select your hard disk,
then click the First Aid tab. Click the button to "Repair Disk
Permissions". If that doesn't help, post back and we'll look elsewhere for
the cause.

People have cited the CWYW add-in in other problems than just the red Xs for
graphics, so it's definitely worth trying.

OT FYI, Endnote 7 for Mac OS X is now out...someone on the Endnote list
reported that EN 6, Word X and OS X were a highly unstable mess and that he
loved EN 7, but someone else complained re EN 7 crashing...People do post
these kinds of questions to the Endnote listserv, which has a moderate
amount of traffic. Their archives are also searchable though inefficient.
