microsoft word crashes on save...help

I recently reinstalled...then uninstalled and reinstalled again a legal,
authorized version of Office 2002 (just the Word and Excel parts). The
problem is this: Word crashes every time I save; Excel works fine. Any
ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks a million....throwing out the "Normal.dot" files didn't help, but
repair and detect did, then it just asked me to reactivate and bingo!

I have a similar problem where Word 2003 freezes whenever I save a document.
It only affects one user (every other user account on the PC works fine),
and it only affects word.
I have tried all the troubleshooting in the support forum as well as the
link above.
This included repairing, resinstalling, uninstalling and reinstalling Word,
wiping registry keys, and deleting files. None of these changes made any
difference whatsoever.
The only thing that gives me a glimmer of hope, is that I backed up all the
users files, created a new user, and copied all of the files in their
directory (except My Documents) over the top of the user account which was
experiencing difficulties. It cured the problem. So I figure it is a problem
with a user setting file.
The obvious problem is that the copy operation overwrote all settings for
all applications, so is not a permanent solution.

Any further suggestions?

If this is just one profile on the PC, delete that profile and create a new
profile for the user is the best option. Troubleshooting a corrupt profile
beyond what you have already done may never find the problem.
