Microsoft Word for Mac OS 9 - Increases document size once save function is perfromed

I use Microsoft Office 98 on an iBook with MAC OS 9. Word has worked
well for the past several years. As of last week, whenever I perform
the "save" function in a word document it increases the document size,
from approx 20 to 35kb to well over 600kb. In all cases, these are
very simple, text-only files with little to no formatting and no
graphics or images. Aside from my concern over this glitch, it is
also time consuming, as it takes several minutes to perform the "save"
function.

Help?!

Thanks,

Carolyn

I suspect you have the "allow fast saves" checkbox
(Preferences/Save) checked. Fast Saves are the spawn of the devil
and should never be used. They're actually slower than regular saves
in many/most cases. They're definitely more prone to corruption.
Turn it off.
