Microsoft Word for Mac v.X

I am told that this version of Word is no longer supported. Great.

Here's the problem -- I cannot send word documents on my web-based
email (gmail). Gmail tells me that it has detected a virus.

I have an iBook G4, and no virus software.

Also, every time I open a word document, it asks me to enable or
disable macros. This is a new development for me. I've never seen
this before, and suspect that this may be a part of the problem.

Please help.

Every Word document you create is based on a template called "Normal"
(unless specified otherwise). In your case, there seems to be a problem
with said template, as it contains potentially viral macros which you do
not seem to have put in there intentionally. To test this, quit Word,
then go to /Applications/Microsoft Office v.X/Templates/ and move the
Normal template out of that folder. Now launch Word again; doing this
will create a new Normal template, and you should no longer see the
macro warning. Try sending a new document based on that new Normal
template (simply type some text in the new document, then save it) via
Gmail. If all goes well, you should no longer see the virus warning, and
you're free to delete the old Normal template at that point.

By the way, you should download ClamXav, which is a free and open-source
anti-virus program for Mac OS X. You can find it here:

Hi Denise -

Well, obviously you shouldn't have been told that:) This group is dedicated
to supporting users of literally *any* version of Mac Office still in use...
For Free.

What you should have been told is that *MS* no longer supports Office X
because it is an obsolete package. That means no more updates or technical
support directly from MS [for which there *would* be a fee].

I'm not sure I understand your reaction, however, as this is standard for
any vendor in the computer industry once a product has reached a certain
"age of antiquity" & has been superseded by a "newer models". That's one
reason why reduced pricing is offered for upgrades - so users can better
stay current with the software.
