If you tag the text as English (UK) it should spellcheck for British
spelling, the ability is built in. Tag text via Tools | Language (select
text first). If you want English UK to be the default, click "default" in
that dialog. Ask if you need something more automated, but not the default.

Are you looking for something more than that? Although I don't quite know
what more there would be to get...

Maybe the spelling dictionary has not been installed.... You can always
install it from Office 2004 insaller on the install CD. There are no
additional spelling dictionary available from MS other than the ones on
the CD.

It's built-in. The Main Dictionary in Microsoft Word is a multi-column
table, one column for the root of each word and other columns for
language-specific variations.

As the other posters have mentioned, you need to ensure that you have the
text tagged as English UK. If you have, Word will automatically spell with
a British accent.

Cheers

Hi,

yes that's what I thought. It's built-in like in the PC. But for some
reason it didn't do the whole job. It corrects some of the words...not
all of it.

Hm...

See if those words have been added to your custom dictionary in
username/library/preferences/microsoft. Or use Tools | Language (with the
cursor in the misbehaving word) to check that it is really tagged properly.

Sorry, technical glitch:
This topic: Specify a preferred spelling for a word

Select the whole of the text and force it by setting the Language to English
UK.

Late-model PC variants of Word have the ability to "Detect Language
Automatically". It's a document property (personal to the document). It's
toxic; it results in the language tags being switched throughout the text on
a word-by-word basis.

So Mac Business Unit "somehow" managed to "forget" to enable it in Mac Word
{Ooops! What a shame!!}.

But to fix this in a document that has had this happen, you need to select
the text and peremptorily apply a language to it. It's a real nuisance...

Cheers
