Microsoft Word hangs upon opening

Word, as packaged with Office 2000, has suddenly started
to hang upon opening. The whole computer locks up on the
Word start-up window. Cannot bring up the Task Manger to
close the application. All other Office applications
work just fine. Have uninstalled and re-installed Office
with no change. Have attempted to "repair" Word to no
avail. Operating system is Windows ME, computer is Dell
Dimension. Anti-virus definitions are up to date and
computer is virus free. Please help! --Michele

Try renaming "normal.dot" to "normal.old" and then start Word to create
a new copy.
