"Microsoft Word Has Stopped Working" Displayed Upon Exit

I'm running Vista Home Premium (32-bit), and I'm having an issue with
Microsoft Office 2007. Sometimes immediately after I save a document
and close Word, I get the error message "Microsoft Word has stopped
working," and then, right after, "Microsoft Word is being restarted."
Then Microsoft Word opens to a blank document. Prior to closing the
application, everything is fine: Word saves the document just fine,
etc. And after Word is restarted, it is runs fine as well, and will
open a document without incident, etc. My question is: Why does this
happen sporadically and how can I stop it? I've researched the issue
and several people are having a similar issue where the "Microsoft
Word has stopped working" error message appears immediately after
opening the application, and it prevents people from using the
application successfully. However, I'm only experiencing the issue
upon exiting the application after I've already used it and saved
successfully. Thanks!

This sounds like an incompatible add-in. Try starting Word in Safe Mode
(hold down the control key whilst starting Word until it asks you if you
want to start in Safe Mode). If it opens and closes without errors, then you
need to check the add-ins. The usual suspects are anything Adobe or
Symantec.

Thanks for your reply. Since this only happens sometimes I will have
to run Word in safe mode several times to see if the problem occurs,
but that's no problem. My question is: How do I check the add-ins?

Anyone?

I have the same problem. I have disabled every one of my add-ins, but
the problem persists. I can see that my normal template has a problem,
so I try renaming it, but the new one that is created is also
corrupted.

If all add-ins are definitely removed/disabled and you have renamed
normal.dotm to normal.bad, then try following the troubleshooting tips in
this FAQ http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ProbsOpeningWord.htm

You need to start by going into Safe Mode to see if it is a Word problem or
an external problem (such as the printer/graphics drivers or a third party
add-in or AV, etc.)
