Microsoft Word

When I click on microsoft word and it comes up on my
screen only the hour-glass appears, there is no arrow,
therefore the computor will not function. I cannot use
microsoft word, I cannot get out of microsoft word and I
cannot bring up my desk top or click on start to shut down
my computor. The only way I can shut down my computor is
to turn off the tower while microsoft word is still on the
screen. The arrow appears for every other function so I
can get on the web and can pick up my email. As stated
before the only trouble I am having is when I want to use
microsoft word no arrow appears.
I hope you can help me with this problem as I have to
use microsoft word very often.
