Microsoft Works precurser to MSOffice 2003

I just now have the opportunity to install Office2003 on my WindowsXP system.
But, MSWorks was previously installed.

Do I have to uninstall Works before I unstall Office? And/or are the Works
files convertable to Office? (example: Works spreadsheet .xls files to Excel
..xlr
files)?

You don't have to but if you have Office, you will probably find that you
have no need for Works.

Do I need to do anything special to save the MSWorks files?

I suggest you leave Works installed on the computer. Word can
open Works word processor files if the proper converter is
installed. But as far as I know, Excel cannot open Works
spreadsheet files, Access cannot open Works database files, and
Outlook cannot open Works calendar files.

Excel can open Works spreadsheet files, at least it could when I used
Excel2k. I may have had to add a converter. I believe the new excel files
opened as read only.

All works data files remain in place even if you uninstall works
