The Microsoft XP Professional subscription I purchased has
expired. I bought an upgrade but it is Office XP
Standard. Is there some way that I can use this to
upgrade the subscription version of Professional.

Nope. You cannot use an upgrade (whatever flavour it might be) to change
between versions of the same product line. You are required to own one of
the qualifying products (either 2000 or 97). If you do not own either then
you may try returning the upgrade to the store for a refund but, if you have
removed the shrink-wrap, or the seal (if no shrink-wrap) then most stores
consider this acceptance of the product and will not refund you.

You can contact Microsoft in the locale where you live to see about
converting your subscription into a full product - check the Microsoft
office in your country.
