Mid day start

I have a task that lasts 1.5 days but starts on a monday afternoon and
finishes end of day tuesday.
I can't get it to start on the monday afternoon, it will only show as
starting on the Monday morning and finishing half way through Tuesday.
Please can anyone shed some light on this )

I'm not sure what the problem is, but

: ensure you are displaying date and time in the fields. Do this via
Menu: Tools/Options, Tab: View, Date format and pick one with time visible.

: be careful about putting in specific start dates for tasks. Let
Project compute for you that it can start on Monday afternoon at 13:00
and use 1/2 day on Monday and 1 day on Tuesday. Sounds like you are
telling Project the plan.

: with the above qualification that it is not normally a good idea in
Project to input start date/time, if you must: then just input the
date/time into the start field using the same format as displayed.

Use project to compute the schedule. Using it to document a schedule
created/made-up elsewhere is normally a waste of time and you'll be
forever fighting with Project.

Thanks Rob, It was just for a very basic plan to show install dates for three
differnet teams and I just needed to show that they were only working the
afternoon on the monday and then all day tuesday.

I have got it now, I displayed the time and changed the start of Monday to
13:00, then I changed the display back to just showing the date.

Thanks for your help

Hi,

OBTW you don't even have to show time of day for the sole purpose of
entering it.
Whatever the date format you can always enter 7/10/9 13:00 f.i. in a date
field

Entering that time established a Start No Earlier Than constraint. Will
it's probably not a serious problem here, in general that's not a good idea.
An important question to consider is WHY were they only working Monday
afternoon? If it's because they were tied up on something outside the
Project on Monday morning, a better solution would have been to show the
Monday morning's hours as non-working time in the resource's calendar. That
way if the activity that gave rise to the morning conflict was cancelled,
updating the calendar to reflect that they were now available would cause
Project to take advantage of the now free'ed up time and move the task to
start earlier.
