midi sequence

I created a PowerPoint using 2003. I made the set-up to be:
link sounds > 1000kb

I then inserted a midi sequence that is only 8kb (yeah, I could change the
setting). Anyway, I want to make sure I am understanding what I just did.

Since I have more than enough kb, is the midi now embedded, or is it still
considered a link? I do not want to make a folder, link to the folder. If
what I have already done is not embedded, I will change the midi to a wav,
but it loses a lot of the songs quality.

My second question: where do I go in the slide show that it will tell me if
a sound I inserted has been embedded or linked?

thanks

dee,

Unfortunately, the only sound files that are embedded are WAV files, so
your MIDI is linked, regardless of the setting you adjusted. Had it been
an 8kb WAV file (as if WAV files are ever that small), it would have been
embedded.

You can tell if a sound is linked or embedded by right-clicking on the
sound icon and choosing Edit Sound. At the bottom of the dialog box, it
will either say "[Contained in presentation]" if it is embedded, or it
will show a path to the file.

thanks, David. I was afraid that was the answer. It sure is deceiving when
it says "link sound files greater than"....makes it seem like any sound file
is embedded if under the parameter. Sigh.
thanks again

You are right. If that were the worst offender in PowerPoint, we wouldn't
have much to complain about. Unfortunately, there are so many annoyances
in PowerPoint that Echo is writing a whole book about them.

I sooooo agree with you, dee. As I've said numerous times before, that label
sucks. Why it can't say "embed WAVs smaller than XX kb," I'll never know.
