I am going to migrate from windows XP to MAC. How do I go about
getting a copy of OFFICE for MAC? I already have a valid license for
the windows world. Will they (Microsoft) require me to purchase a whole
new copy?
Unfortunately, yes.
If you or anyone in your family is a student or teacher, though, you can
get the Student/Teacher edition for $150. There are no program
differences between the S/T and Standard edition. The S/T edition comes
with 3 licenses vs. 1 for Standard, but the S/T edition is not
guaranteed to be upgradeable (though in the past it has been, and buying
two versions of S/T is still cheaper than one Standard).
If you don't qualify for S/T, you may be able to save a bit money by
finding a cheap copy of Office 98/2001/v.X and upgrading. Try looking on
eBay, or check at a local college store, user group or a computer store
that sells Macs (sometimes they know about people who've upgraded to new
systems and are looking for buyers for old equipment/software).
