migrating a Project 2003 license to a new computer

I have a new desktop in the office and wish to deactivate the project 2003 on
my laptop then reacitivate it on the new desktop system. I don't see a quick
or easy way to do it at first glance. This question applies to my Visio 2003
as well.

thx.

You will need the original media with the key on it. Uninstall on one from
control panel then install on the new one.
You could also use a 3rd party program like Ghost to move the entire hard
drive. However, this has its complications.

Also, when you do he re-install, you have to "activate". there are only
so many times that activation is possible by default. If it ends up
stopping you from activating, there will be a Microsoft phone number
given and all you have to phone them and go through the process. Has
always worked for me (and I've moved my Project 2003 license around a
lot due to failed laptops over the years).

The IT 'person' informs me we have the installation disk - but not the case
that came with it...he moved the disk to a disk library. is it possible to
find my license key within project or from the registry?

Humm. I guess if I were you I'd make it IT's problem to work.

lol...I wish it were that easy!

based on the missing disk holder(s) you can see why I would choose to
handle this directly. Does MS have a technical support number that would
be a good resource for this question?

I personally don't know. I would start with Google on the question
(this is a basic question about installing Microsoft Office software),
and then www.microsoft.com for our country. Maybe at minimum, find out
from the IT person who they bought the software from and ask that
vendor. Work the chain of command. I would "expect" help, but I don't
"anticipate" that you'll get much. Sorry.

Previous posters here gave some advice

(I thought you would appreciate the suggestion ... they have to learn
the consequences of their actions when throwing away a CD box which is
clearly marked "DO NOT LOSE THIS NUMBER").

Thanks for the help Rob...I appreciate the inputs - and the pointers.

the google route tends to be frought with 'red herrings' but might be my best
route - considering all the MS answers seem to point to an expensive support
call...

needless to say I will be writing a policy regarding the future handling of
software.
(I personally use a sharpie and transfer license numbers directly to disks
when I
purchase software - a practice dating back to the days of the single sided
single desity 12 floppy disk! oh I am that old and more).

I'm that old too. Remember days when those floppies were innovative.
