Migrating files and templates from Mac Office X to Office 2008

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Power PC

Cannot find a migration program to collect templates, macros and document settings used in my older version of office to 2008. I purchased a new program (home & student) rather than an upgrade version.

You can copy the templates into your templates folder.

Macros will be stripped. Document settings may or may not work, depending
on what they are.

Look in Word>Preferences>File Locations>User Templates to see where your
templates folder is.

Unless you have moved it, it will be:
/Users/ ~ /Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office/User Templates/

Cheers

I'm honestly not sure exactly what you're looking for:

* VBA has been excised from Office 2008, so macros will not work,
* Your Mac's Finder will enable you to locate & move any templates - if
indeed you even need to, and
* It's hard to address your "settings" issue without knowing *what* settings
you mean.

Many, including myself, suggest that you leave 2004(?) on board & just
install 2008 - you may find that you'll want to continue using *both*... At
least for the short term:) If you need more info please be a bit more
specific about what you want to know/do.

1) The post title was about .X not 2004. So the answer to leave 2004 on a system may not be of use to the poster.

I thought as part of the 2008 install, ALL previous versions of Office were erased.

2) Does keeping 2004 create any problems?

3) HOW does one keep 2004?

4) Does keeping .X create any problems?

5) HOW does one keep .X?

You are encouraged to uninstall earlier versions of Office during the 2008
install, but it is by no means compulsory; you can also instruct the
installer not to remove them, and there is no problem with keeping two
versions of Office on one hard disk. The only recommendation to make in this
context is not to run two different versions of Entourage at the same time,
as the different Database Daemons could clash.
