How do I migrate all my notebooks from my present computer to a new computer.
Thank you.

Are you intending to transfer them permanently or share them between the two
computers?

I want to migrate the Notebooks permanently to my new computer.
This a stand-alone computer connected to the internet but not networked with
any other computers.

Thank you for your answer.

Install OneNote 2007 in the new computer. Installing OneNote 2007 will
create a notebook folder and install sample notebooks.

Copy your current notebooks {*.one files}. If you want to group your current
notebooks by subject, create a folder for each subject and copy the
appropriate notebooks into those folders.

Open OneNote 2007. Go to File, Open, Notebooks and open each of your old
notebooks.

Thanks for your reply Don

I was thinking of copying the backup folder for One Note which is present in
the AppData folder.
My question is that the backup folder in AppData is more than twice as large
as the OneNote folder in 'Documents'...even though the actual One Note files
{*.one files} that they refer to are the same.
My understanding from your reply is that you suggest that I copy my current
notebooks from the 'OneNote Notebooks' folder in 'Documents' rather than the
'OneNote' folder in AppData.....is this correct.

Close OneNote (which should ensure that any remaining syncing to the local
cache file is completed) and then simply use Windows Explorer to copy the
top-level Notebook folder to its new home on the new computer. Then right-
click the folder and select "Open as Notebook in OneNote". That will open
up the Notebook and automatically configure any necessary caching or
syncing.

Essentially. Keep in mind that not all of your Notebooks will necessarily
be stored on the local HD in that folder. I would not worry about
individual *.ONE section files. Copy the top-level Notebook folders only.
If you already have data organized the way you want it on the old computer,
then copying over the Notebook folders and reopening them on the new
computer will retain all of the organization.

Thank you. I think I understand what you mean but....
Sorry to belabor the point but when you say "Copy the top-level Notebook
folders only." ..do you mean the folders as they appear in the OneNote
Notebooks in the 'Documents' folder?

Yes. In Windows Explorer, there should be a directlry under your "My
Documents" folder called "OneNote Notebooks" which contains one or more
folders which correspond to the names of each Notebook in OneNote. Select
each of those folders and copy/paste them to the new location on another
hard drive and then right-click each one one-at-a-time and select "Open as
Notebook in OneNote" from the context menu. This will automatically open
them in OneNote and configure any syncing if needed.

You don't have to paste these folders under "My Notebooks" on the
destination computer - any folder will do.
