Migrating Office from Windows 98 to Vista Computer

I had Office 2000 Standard on a Windows 98 PC that died, forcing me to buy a
new computer. I bought one with Windows Vista. How do I reinstate my MS
Office on the new PC? The only CD I have is the upgrade CD that I used to
install it on the old PC and I'm unable to install it on the new PC because
it can't find an older version. Furthermore, my product key won't activate
the Office 2007 trial version that is pre-installed on the new PC. Is there
any way to retain my prior investment and upgrade my old Office 2000 to a
later version, or even install Office 2000 on the Vista PC?

Office 2000 MAY install on Vista. It is an unsupported installation by
Microsoft. Some have reported success and others have reported problems.
IIRC, according to posts Outlook 2000 won't run properly.

If you don't have the qualifying product for the Office 2000 upgrade you can
look at this web site for all the qualifying products for Office 2000. You
or a friend may have one of them stored somewhere. Of course the official
"version" would be to go to ebay and purchase a qualifying product then
upgrade.

As for activating the Office 2007 trial, it won't because the 2000 key is
product specific.
