Migrating OneNote 2003 program from XP machine to new Vista machin

Hi,
My old Toshiba laptop came with copy of OneNote 2003 preinstalled, which I
used and liked real well. I have a copy of my OneNote notebook data
backed-up on a disk.

What I don't know how to do is how to get the PROGRAM off the XP-Toshiba
and onto the Vista-HP machine. Is this possible?

I assume that if it is possible, I'll need a product key, which I don't
have--unless I can use the one that's on the sticker on the bottom of the
XP-Toshiba machine.

Can anyone help?

Thank you.

Hello Karen,

If you don't have the CD or backups anymore, about the only thing I can
think to do is this:
1. Use an internet search to find "OneNote 2003 download" and look for the
download site.
2. Download the file (and burn it to CD!)
3. Now do another search for applications which can get the previous CD key
from a computer with Office installed. Run it on your older computer and
copy the number it retrieves for OneNote 2003.
4. I usually write the CD key numbers on the CD as well. Keeps me from
losing them.

Good luck!

Thanks for your reply, John.

OK--finally getting back here--thought I'd get an auto-email-notifier, but
that's OK.

Feeling a little dumb---if the program was PREinstalled, I wouldn't have the
disk, right? Could you mean a rescue disk? As in I'd have to reformat the
old machine to get it back on there?

The old machine has Office (ahem...) 97 on it, which we purchased long ago,
and the OneNote was an OEM install. The new machine has Office 2007
Professional w/ BCM, which was the version we needed, but it didn't come with
One Note.

I downloaded a Product Key finder that works for Office, paid the $4.99, and
all it located on the old machine was Windows. I went to the program menu to
make sure OneNote 2003 was still installed, clicked on it, and it went
through some sort of a setup/install process---at the end of which, it guess
what? Asked me for a product key!! :) The key on the sticker on the bottom
of the laptop didn't work.

Any thoughts?

Feeling even dumber------I found the ORIGINAL, original disks--the product
key I had been trying was from an XP upgrade product we had.... Anyway, I
d-loaded the trial version and used the key; it worked; I'm in. Thank you.
