Migrating Project Server 2007

Cnegroni

Hi, I wanted to know what should I do to move a Project Server 2007 (single
installation) to two different servers: a database server and an application
server.

Thank you very much

Hi Cnegroni,

Before you do anything be sure to back up the databases. At a very high
level, you have to have SQL ready on the new server, have the right domain
level userid (see the Deployment guide for correct security userids), and be
ready to make changes within SharePoint to point to the new server.

This move is sort half migration and half installation. Technet has some
documentation about it here:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc197479.aspx and here:

Hi CQ,

Thank you for the information, it's a good starting point for me. So, can
you please tell me if these steps are correct:

- Install Project Server 2007 SP1 in the new servers (one for BD and one for
Applications)
- Backup databases from the old server (which uses SQL 2005 Express Edition)
- Restore databases in the new BD Server

Is that all? or I need to fix something through Sharepoint?

Regards

You need to have SQL installed on the SQL server before you install Project
on the application server. The comment about "fixing" SharePoint makes me
nervous. My assumption is that you will be creating a new SharePoint site,
and therefore you need to back up the SharePoint database as well. Please
read the documentation carefully, the method of tie-ing the SharePoint and
Project information together again can be tricky.
